Summer 2015

  • Middle School English teachers Patrick Kieffer and Todd Johnson returned to Ndonyo Wasin, joined by new travelers Monika Johnston (Middle School History), Tim Jensen (4th  grade), and Liz Aberback (1st grade).
  • Upon arrival at the Ndonyo Wasin Primary School Packer teachers paired off with their cohorts in the same grade levels and began  launched a ten-day experience of professional exchange that involved in-depth discussions, observations, learning, and teaching.
  • Afterschool sessions were offered to share the Brooklyn edition of “This Is Ours,” create debate clubs, and present the teachers and students with murals that Packer’s 3rd grade students created illustrating Samburu folktales.
  • After an expression of interest from the female students about the lives of  American females, Johnston and
    Aberback were  met asked to meet with the female students of the school to share their journeys as women and answer questions.
  • Packer teachers continued to spend time with individuals of the village beyond the school walls, documenting their experiences to add to the existing curriculum.
