Post: Standard 5: Social Studies & CRE

…….. ..Standard 6: English

Hometown: Ndonyo Wasin

Mother tongue: Samburu

First teacher in family: Yes

On becoming a teacher:

Lawrence noticed that Ndonyo Wasin and the surrounding area is in desperate need for more teachers to “boost” education. Lawrence sees education as a “necessity” and feels it is the path to solving problems in his community. He hopes to see a difference through his efforts as a teacher.

Like many of his peers, Lawrence struggled to pay his school fees. He patiently waited to save up enough money to pay. During that time Lawrence volunteered at NWPS. At the time of the interview he had been teaching at NWPS for two years.

On being surprised about teaching (expectations and Day 1 jitters):

“How should start it (the lesson)? What should I look upon now? How should I go on?”

On sharing and learning from each other:

Lawrence would like to share strategies about how to help students excel. He would like to help his students find solutions for doing well on their exams, particularly in social studies.

Requests:

NWPS needs books! Books for reading, books for teaching – all manner of suitable books.

The students like stories about animals and history.
