The view from Little Round Top on the Battlefield at Gettysburg. 2013

On July 2nd 1863, Confederate forces made numerous attacks up this slope in a desire to dislodge the defending Federals. The Valley below came to known as the “Valley of Death” as thousands of dead and wounded Union and Confederate troops marred this landscape.

Union Gen. Gouverneur Warren, who’s statue graces the summit of Little Round Top, discovered this vital high ground and rushed Union troops to the site just minutes before the Confederate attack. Union troops held this ground throughout the battle.

From the heights one can take in almost the entire Gettysburg Battlefield.
