Mock Newbery Book Club Closing Celebration

On Friday, February 24th Packer hosted the closing celebration for our inter-school Mock Newbery Book Club celebration. There were 70 book club participants in attendance from Packer, Saint Ann’s, and Brooklyn Friends School. Each school presented their Mock Newbery winners and best of all we heard from our guest speaker, Laura Lutz, a librarian at Convent of the Sacred Heart in Manhattan and a member of the 2017 Newbery Committee. The real committee! She spoke about her experience and answered students’ questions. It was a fun, informative, and celebratory event.

Newbery Seal
The Fourth Grade Mock Newbery Book Club is underway again this year! This is a voluntary book club that meets in the Hart Library during lunch about once a month to discuss a list of books compiled by the librarians and Packer. We had our initial meeting where members learned what was on our list. They’re busy reading away in preparation for our next meetings which will be on Thursday, October 20th and 27th. There has been such overwhelming interest (about 40 students) that we have had to split the club into two separate groups! Please stop by the Hart Library to talk to Chris and Megan about this year’s list. Happy reading!
