We have exciting news! Author Adam Gidwitz is coming to Packer on Tuesday, May 29th to speak to Fourth Graders about his new series, The Unicorn Rescue Society. We have partnered with our local bookstore, Books Are Magic, so you can order any of his books and get it personalized by Adam when he comes to Packer. Please use this link for ordering. It’s best to order by May 18th to ensure you will have their book signed at the event. Please follow the directions and choose “pick up at store” as your delivery preference and enter the promo code PACKER under additional information when checking out. You don’t actually have to pick up at Books Are Magic, they will be delivered here to Packer.

The 4th Grade Mock Newbery Book Club participants have been busily reading all year and their vote is finally in. Their winner is Wishtree.. by Katherine Applegate! The actual Newbery winners were also announced – check it out here.

Peter Brown, beloved and award-winning author and illustrator, is coming to Packer on Thursday, January 18th. Children Make Terrible Pets, Creepy Carrots, The Curious Garden, The Wild Robot, and more recently Creepy Pair of Underwear are among some of his books. He is happy to sign copies of any of his books so make sure to bring them in on the 18th!

The award-winning illustrator and author Bryan Collier is coming to Packer Friday, December 15th. He has won nine Coretta Scott King Awards and four Caldecott Honor medals for his illustrations. He will be speaking with the Fourth, Third, and Second Graders. He is more than happy to sign copies of his books so bring them in!
Great fun was had at the after school event to BHMS last Friday. Our students got to hear from and meet the Newbery Honor Award winner, Adam Gidwitz, as well as mingle with fellow book clubbers from local schools: Saint Ann’s, Brooklyn Friends, and Poly Prep.
Packer’s 4th Grade Mock Newbery Book Club is run concurrently with librarians and students at St. Ann’s, Brooklyn Friends, Poly Prep, and Brooklyn Heights Montessori. Every year we hold a couple events at one of the participating schools. This year’s first event will be after school at Brooklyn Heights Montessori School (BHMS) located at 185 Court Street, Brooklyn on Friday, December 1st. We will meet in the Hart Library after school promptly at 3:20 on December 1st and walk over to BHMS. The celebration will begin at 3:40pm and will run until 4:45. We will meet and discuss books with children at these nearby schools as well as hear from a special guest speaker, Adam Gidwitz, who won a Newbery honor medal for his book The Inquisitor’s Tale. Snacks will be provided. We will walk back to Packer for a 5pm pick up back in the Hart Library. Those interested in attending must return a signed permission slip as well as have a parent email Chris Rush (firstname.lastname@example.org) no later than 11/29.
